Go Cocks!

Last year the senator from South Carolina, Jim DeMint, resigned his elected position to become the head of the influential conservative think-tank, the Heritage Foundation. Although this was a surprise move, if you think about how much the Senate (and House) gets done in Washington, heading up the Heritage Foundation probably gave DeMitt an even broader voice in spreading his own personal racism.

SCIt didn’t take long but the results are a bit surprising. The Heritage Foundation, following the research done by what the The Daily Beast calls “a report authored in part by a modern-day phrenologist,” made a big and miscalculated splash accusing immigration reform to be hugely expensive. Of course Heritage and their racist guru only calculated the costs of the reform over the years and never included any of the benefits, not even the monetary ones. It has been common knowledge that immigration reform is a winner for the economy of the country, but that didn’t stop Jim DeMint.

To be fair, however, floating big lies about government programs and the sources of costs and revenues has never been a problem with the Republican party. At least until this one. Who knew that the Republicans were doing everything they could to woo the more ethnic portions of our population? Well, just about everyone except Jim DeMint it seems.

So DeMint’s first big move at the Heritage Foundation was not only moronic and easily refuted,  it also pissed off his own political party. The real fun has been watching staunch conservatives criticizing DeMint. What a maroon.

Then again, the voters of South Carolina don’t seem to have any problem with electing sleaze-bags to represent them. Case in point, the ex-governor Mark Sanford who was absent-without-leave from his previous job, lied about his secret rendezvous with his hot South American girl friend, used taxpayer’s money to support his uncontrollable urges, but, divorced and disgraced, Mark Sanford was judged by the voters of South Carolina to be the kind of guy they want to represent them in Washington.

If it wasn’t true, no one would believe it.
