XFX: Fantastic Orgy

OrgyYears ago I read a few science fiction books and discovered the works of Larry Niven. Not long ago I tried to revive that interest and, unfortunately, was so bored and disappointed I couldn’t keep reading. But back when, I recall Niven developed the idea that in the future we would discover the beneficial uses of cancer and harness the ability to quickly regenerate parts of our bodies that were chopped off or otherwise mutilated … like starfish, I guess.

Now I am reading some stories by that bizarre and often disturbing writer, Carlton Mellick III. He has an even more imaginative take on what once were considered diseases being repurposed for further development and modification of the human animal.

It was Share Your STD Night at the Demon Seed. Over the past decades, sexually transmitted diseases have evolved in strange ways. Herpes, AIDS, Gonorrhea; these are all STDs of the past. These days, STDs are more extreme and bizarre. They aren’t exactly diseases anymore. They are more like sexually transmitted body modification. There’s an STD that changes your hair color, an STD that causes your toes to grow larger, one causes you to grow extra breasts on your body, another causes your skin to become translucent, and there’s an especially annoying STD that causes you to ejaculate minature eyeballs. There’s literally thousands of varieties, with more being discovered every day. Many people are careful about who they sleep with because they don’t want to contract any of these strange diseases. However, some people seek out certain STDs for one reason or another. That’s why I was at the Demon seed that night.

Yes, whether you still call them STDs or whether you adopt a more realistic name and call them Sexually Transmitted Modifications (STMs), they make for an interesting future.

This story is called Fantastic Orgy and is in the Bizarro collection by the same name. The titles of the included stories are:

      • Candy-Coated
      • Ear Cat
      • Fantastic Orgy
      • City Hobgoblins
      • Porno in August.

Like most of Mellick’s fiction, these stories are designed to warp your mind but, as I have contended before, the Bizarro genre is a treasure chest of imagination and uniqueness. Fantastic Orgy might be a good collection to start with. I sure enjoyed it.
