Living in Los Angeles in the sixties I was a happy participant in the political events of California’s favorite candidate, Pat Paulson. I still remember those epic events at the Ontra Cafeteria and who can forget Jesse (Big Daddy) Unruh’s pink power suit? Paulson more famously went on to run for President in 1968 while associated with the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.
In his comedic quest to deny Ronald Reagan the governorship of the state of California, Paulson, in all seriousness, accused Reagan of being a latent heterosexual. Funny, right?
For a large part of the population, Paulson had slathered the affable Republican with the worst kind of pornographic smear: how dare anyone call Ronald Reagan a heterosexual!
Perhaps this is an example of a problem with social media that also deserves to be highlighted: Things that are accepted or rejected which in reality only demonstrate ignorance. Nowadays there are many terms, ideas, -isms, tossed around by ignorant people that do not know what they are talking about.
Latent heterosexual is funny. But the same person who doesn’t understand sexuality is also posting rants about the evils of socialism, equating face masks to the Holocaust, or demanding that anyone who doesn’t respect the sanctity of human life be executed.
