Smile On Your Brother

images.jpgI’ve had a couple of days to further evaluate and learn from the recent police killings in Minnesota and Louisiana. I hinted at a conclusion that could be made in my earlier post but now I am even more convinced. In both killings (and many other earlier police killings) what is often mentioned but I have not realized the significance of until just now is that the police murdered both victims when neither victim had done anything wrong. The victim or even fear of the victim did not cause the police officer to shoot.

The police officer took an innocent man’s life without any due process for the clear reason that he was afraid. Not afraid of anything the victim did or even anything the victim was likely to do. The police officer was afraid because the Right-Wing media and the Right-Wing supported political institutions continually beat it into his subconscious mind that he needs to be afraid. The big lie in America nowadays is how anyone that doesn’t look like you or act like you think they should act is ipso facto out to destroy the American way of life and more to the point, out to get you. A secondary rant coming from many organizations but chiefly the Nation Rifle Association is that survival in the American jungle makes having a large collection of expensive and impressive firearms a requirement.

Don’t Shoot

images.jpgIn the last few days there have been at least three newsworthy killings, all by guns. One was an innocent, unarmed black man who was being held down on the ground by the police yet still was deemed a threat to the life of one other policeman that he felt obliged to pump numerous bullets into the body of the subdued black man. Another was a black man who was stopped for an alleged tail-light malfunction. The black man informed the police that he was armed but that he carried a permit for the concealed weapon. The police demanded his papers and when he reached for the papers, he was shot and killed by an over-anxious policeman who apparently was very afraid of a black man with a gun.

Then last night while patrolling a Black Lives Matter rally, an apparent crossfire of angry African-Americans killed at least five policemen and wounded many other people, police and civilian. Later the police were able to kill at least one of the shooters. Now we learn that the lone shooter was a veteran and trained killer clad in body armor and upset about the recent police killings. Interestingly, the shooter was taken out by sending in the bomb robot, not to remove a bomb but rather to deliver a bomb. Skynet, here we come.

Let’s Try the War Criminals

As a kid I learned that when your parents have you dead to rights … lie, lie, lie, and never stop lying. Now I was maybe eleven but there is a political party today that uses the same tactics.

SadamThe Republicans—especially those running for the nomination to be our next president—have been mumbling, stumbling, and bumbling in an effort to seem presidential and still support the party that brought us the death and destruction that was the Iraq War, the ruin of the American middle class, and what is possibly the biggest theft in our history in collusion with Wall Street and the banksters.

It is difficult to hear the blatant mendacity involved in the Republican revisions to the history of the Iraq war.

I contend that the only way to uncover the truth of this shameful episode in the history of this country is to charge the main instigators of the war—the people who supported the Bush Doctrine—and let the courts decide whether it was all just an embarrassing mistake based on faulty intelligence or whether in fact people such as Cheney, Bush, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Perle, Feith, and Krystal, are  war criminals (and war profiteers) that should be behind bars.

I’m musing that Jeb Bush might find it ironic to learn that his bumbling reopened the case and might put his brother into prison after all.
