They Say You Must Read These Books

Who are “they” anyway?

There is a big, honking book out called 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die edited by Peter Boxall. For me, the list is quasi-useful. True, it shows the titles of a lot of books that are generally considered somehow more important to read than other books. However, the list leaves out way too many books that I might want included, especially the more experimental texts. So just because a title isn’t on the list doesn’t mean it is any less important to read … it just might have a more limited audience.
